What Is Vietnam E-visa?
Vietnam E-visa, or Vietnam electronic visa, is a type of visa issued by the Vietnam Immigration Department to foreigners through the electronic system. Foreign nationals can submit applications online, pay the fee online, check the result and print the E-visa for entry into and exit from Vietnam.
According to the Vietnam Immigration Department’s electronic visa system, Vietnam E-visa is currently valid for a maximum of 90 days and may be issued for single entry or multiple entries. Foreigners outside Vietnam may personally apply for E-visa or apply through requesting agencies or organizations.
Who Can Apply for Vietnam E-visa?
Under current policy, Vietnam grants electronic visas to citizens of all countries and territories if they meet the required conditions. This policy has been applied since Resolution 127/NQ-CP in 2023 and remains an important basis for Vietnam E-visa issuance.
Vietnam E-visa is commonly suitable for foreign nationals entering Vietnam for purposes such as:
- Tourism;
- Short-term business;
- Family visit;
- Conferences and seminars;
- Market research;
- Working with partners;
- Other suitable entry purposes as permitted.
However, E-visa does not replace every Vietnam visa type. If the foreign national needs long-term work, investment, temporary residence card, work permit or a more complex sponsored stay, the suitable visa type should be checked before applying.
Requirements for Vietnam E-visa
Vietnam E-visa applicants must meet basic requirements relating to passport validity, current location, entry purpose and entry eligibility under Vietnamese regulations.
Passport Requirements
The applicant must have a valid passport or international travel document. The passport should generally be valid for at least 06 months from the expected entry date into Vietnam and have blank pages for entry and exit stamps.
Passport information must be clear and not damaged, blurred, cropped, blocked at the ICAO code line or difficult to identify.
Applicant’s Location Requirement
Vietnam E-visa applies to foreigners who are outside Vietnam and wish to enter Vietnam. According to the guidance on the electronic visa portal, E-visa is issued to foreigners currently abroad, not to foreigners currently temporarily residing in Vietnam for extension purposes.
Therefore, if a foreign national is already in Vietnam and their visa is about to expire, they should check suitable stay extension, new visa issuance or temporary residence card procedures instead of applying for E-visa as an “online extension.”
Legal Requirements
The E-visa applicant must not fall under cases of entry suspension under Vietnamese law. In addition, the application must be truthful, accurate and consistent with the stated entry purpose.
If information is missing, incorrect or unidentified, the application may not be accepted. The E-visa system guidance also notes that if information is missing, incorrect or unidentified, the application will not be accepted.
How Long Is Vietnam E-visa Valid?
Vietnam E-visa is valid for a maximum of 90 days and may be issued for single entry or multiple entries. During the visa validity, E-visa holders must enter, stay and exit according to the period, border gates and conditions stated on the visa.
With a multiple-entry E-visa, foreign nationals may enter and exit Vietnam multiple times during the visa validity. However, the permitted stay must still comply with the information shown on the E-visa and actual entry regulations at the border gate.
Ports Allowing Entry and Exit With Vietnam E-visa
Since December 2025, the Vietnamese Government has added 41 more border gates to the list of ports allowing foreigners to enter and exit Vietnam with E-visa, bringing the total to 83 ports under Resolution 389/NQ-CP dated 2 December 2025. The list includes air, land and sea border gates.
When applying for E-visa, the applicant must select the correct expected entry and exit ports from the system’s permitted list. If the flight plan or itinerary changes, the foreign national should recheck the information on the E-visa and border regulations before traveling.
Documents Required for Vietnam E-visa Application
Vietnam E-visa documents are generally simpler than some traditional sticker visa applications. However, the applicant must still prepare the correct format and accurate information.
Commonly required items include:
- Clear portrait photo;
- Passport data page image;
- Valid passport;
- Personal information as shown in the passport;
- Expected entry and exit dates;
- Entry and exit ports;
- Expected temporary address in Vietnam;
- Entry purpose;
- Email for application information;
- International payment card or payment method accepted by the system.
According to the electronic visa system guidance, the applicant must upload the passport data page image and a portrait photo looking straight without glasses; after this step, the system will send the registration code for application tracking.
Steps to Apply for Vietnam E-visa Online
Step 1: Access the Official E-visa System
The applicant should access the official Vietnam E-visa system and avoid confusing it with commercial websites or fake websites with similar interfaces. After entering the system, carefully read the instructions, confirm and proceed to the application form.
Step 2: Upload Portrait Photo and Passport Data Page
The applicant uploads the portrait photo and passport data page according to system requirements. The image must be clear, not overexposed, not cropped and must show full passport information, especially the ICAO code line at the bottom of the page.
The portrait photo should be recent, with a light/white background, straight face and no sunglasses or items covering the face.
Step 3: Enter Personal Information
The applicant enters personal information exactly as shown in the passport, including full name, sex, date of birth, nationality, religion if any, passport number, passport type and related information.
If the system automatically extracts information from the passport image, the applicant must still check every field. Automatic extraction does not guarantee that all information is correct.
Step 4: Enter E-visa Request Information
The applicant selects the E-visa validity start and end dates, single-entry or multiple-entry option, expected entry port and expected exit port.
The selected dates must match the Vietnam travel plan. If the validity dates are incorrect, the E-visa may not be valid when the traveler needs to enter or may not cover the full trip.
Step 5: Enter Travel and Accommodation Information in Vietnam
The applicant enters the entry purpose, intended temporary residential address, province/city of stay and contact information in Vietnam if required by the system.
Accommodation information should be specific and realistic, such as hotel name, apartment address, company address or family address. Avoid vague entries such as only “Vietnam.”
Step 5: Enter Travel and Accommodation Information in Vietnam
The applicant enters the entry purpose, intended temporary residential address, province/city of stay and contact information in Vietnam if required by the system.
Accommodation information should be specific and realistic, such as hotel name, apartment address, company address or family address. Avoid vague entries such as only “Vietnam.”
Step 6: Review Information and Save the Registration Code
After completing the form, the applicant should review all information carefully, especially:
- Full name;
- Passport number;
- Date of birth;
- Nationality;
- E-visa validity dates;
- Entry and exit ports;
- Email;
- Accommodation address.
After submission, the system will issue a registration code. The applicant should save it immediately by screenshot, note or email. According to the system guidance, the registration code is used to check the E-visa result.
Step 7: Pay the E-visa Fee
After reviewing the information, the applicant pays the fee online as instructed by the system. The application is only moved to processing after valid payment is completed.
According to the electronic visa portal, the E-visa fee is USD 25 for a single-entry E-visa and USD 50 for a multiple-entry E-visa.
Step 8: Check the Result and Print the E-visa
After submission and payment, the applicant uses the registration code, registered email and date of birth to check the result in the E-visa search section. According to the system guidance, E-visa applications are processed in around 03 working days; if approved, the applicant should print the E-visa to enter/exit Vietnam.
However, actual timing may vary if the application has errors, requires clarification, contains difficult-to-verify information or the system is overloaded. Therefore, applicants should not apply too close to the travel date.
Vietnam E-visa Fees
Current Vietnam E-visa fees are:

This fee is paid online. If the application is refused, information is declared incorrectly or the applicant cancels the trip, the fee is generally non-refundable. Therefore, all information should be checked carefully before payment.
Common Mistakes When Applying for Vietnam E-visa
Common mistakes include:
- Entering the name differently from the passport;
- Reversing surname and given names;
- Entering the wrong passport number;
- Entering the wrong date of birth;
- Selecting the wrong nationality;
- Selecting incorrect visa validity dates;
- Selecting the wrong entry or exit port;
- Uploading a passport image that is overexposed, blurred, cropped or missing the ICAO code line;
- Uploading an incorrect portrait photo;
- Forgetting to save the registration code;
- Using the wrong email or an inaccessible email;
- Assuming the application was submitted when payment was not completed;
- Applying too close to the flight date;
- Confusing the official website with a private service website.
These mistakes may lead to refusal, inability to check results or inability to use the E-visa when entering Vietnam.
Important Notes When Using Vietnam E-visa
E-visa holders should note:
- Print the E-visa and bring it when entering Vietnam;
- Check full name, passport number, date of birth, nationality and visa validity carefully;
- Enter Vietnam within the E-visa validity;
- Use permitted border gates according to the system and current regulations;
- Do not overstay the granted period;
- Do not use the E-visa for the wrong purpose;
- If the passport changes, passport number is incorrect or personal information is wrong, a new application may be required;
- If a longer stay is needed, suitable procedures should be checked before the visa expires;
- Do not use E-visa to replace sponsored applications, work permits or temporary residence cards if the actual case requires those procedures.
E-visa is convenient for many short-term entry cases, but it still must match the correct information, purpose and legal requirements.
Can Vietnam E-visa Be Extended?
E-visa is not an online extension procedure for foreigners already staying in Vietnam. If a foreign national is in Vietnam and wishes to continue staying, suitable stay extension, new visa issuance, temporary residence card or another appropriate solution should be checked depending on stay purpose, sponsoring entity and dossier status.
In some cases, the foreign national may need to exit Vietnam and apply for a new E-visa from outside Vietnam if they are not eligible for in-country processing. Therefore, travelers should not wait until the visa is close to expiry before checking options.
