DT1 visa is issued to foreign investors with a capital contribution of 100 billion VND or more, The visa will have a maximum duration of up to 5 years. In addition, when foreign investors enter Vietnam with a DT1 visa, they will be considered for a temporary residence card with the same symbol and a duration of not up to 10 years.
What is a DT1 visa? Conditions to apply for a Vietnam DT1 visa
In Immigration Law No. 47/2014/QH13, visa which is issued to foreign investors in Vietnam has the symbol DT. However, according to the provisions of Law No. 51/2019/QH14 amending and supplementing, Vietnam investment visas are issued under 4 symbols: DT1, DT2, DT3, DT4.

DT1 Visa (Vietnam visa symbol DT1) is one of the symbols of 21 types of Vietnam visa, issued for:
- Foreign investors and representatives of foreign organizations invest in Vietnam with contributed capital of 100 billion VND or more; or
- Investment in industries and trades with investment incentives and geographical areas with investment incentives shall be decided by the Government.
Foreign investors need to meet the following conditions before applying for a Vietnam visa, symbol D1:
- Have a valid passport or international travel document
- There are agencies and organizations in Vietnam to invite and guarantee
- Not in the cases that have not been allowed to enter the country as prescribed
- Having documents proving the investment in Vietnam following the provisions of the Law on Investment. Documents such as:
- Investment certificates
- Business registration license and documents certifying the investment status of competent state agencies in Vietnam.
Investor DT1 visa procedures for foreigners in Vietnam
Based on where the foreign investors live, the Investor DT1 visa procedures will be different. Specifically:
- Case 1 - Foreign investors are overseas: the guarantor shall carry out procedures to apply for a written Approval Entry Letter for foreigners. After that, foreign investors carry out procedures for DT1 visa stamping at the registered Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate or Border Gate.
- Case 2 - Foreign investors are in Vietnam: the agency inviting the guarantee will change the purpose of the visa, carry out the procedures for a new/extended visa as prescribed for the investors, or carry out the procedure for a temporary residence card with the corresponding DT1 symbol, with a term of up to 10 years for a temporary residence card. The process of Case 1 follows 3 steps below:
Step 1: The company invites or guarantees to prepare documents for the Approval Entry Letter
Necessary documents to apply for an Approval Entry Letter - investment purposes, including:
- Copy of Business License/Investment License of the inviting, guaranteeing business registration agency.
- Registration of seal and signature of the legal representative - NA16 Form
- Application for Official Letter of Guarantee for entry for foreigners entering Vietnam - NA2 Form
- Copy of valid passport
- And other documents as required (depending on specific cases).
Step 2: Proceed to submit the guarantee application
The representative of the inviting or guarantor company will submit the application at:
- Immigration Department of Hanoi/HCMC; or
- Immigration Department of the province or city where the foreigner will stay
Step 3: Foreigners carry out procedures to stamp Vietnam visa with the symbol DT1
After about 5-7 days of submitting the application, the Vietnam agency/organization will receive the notification and issue an Approval Entry Letter to the foreigners from the Immigration Department. The inviting and guaranteeing agency notify and send a scanned copy of the official dispatch to the foreigner.
Foreign investors need to prepare the following documents to stamp the DT1 visa and enter Vietnam:
- Original passport with validity and at least 2 blank pages
- Vietnam visa application form (NA1 Form) with photo
- A hard copy of the Approval Entry Letter
The visa stamping procedure will be depended on the registered location:
- Vietnam Embassy/TLSQ registered; or
- Registered Vietnam border gate
The processing time for DT1 foreign investment visa is about 3-5 working days from the date of submitting all required documents.

How much do Vietnam DT1 visa fees take?
Based on the visa’s value, the fee for Vietnam visa stamping in the field of exit, entry, transit and residence in Vietnam will be different.
