Member States of ASEAN
9 member states of ASEAN: Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand are exempt from visas for up to 30 days; Brunei, Myanmar are exempt from visas for a maximum period of 14 days; Philippines is exempt from visas for a maximum period of 21 days.
Other countries eligible for visa exemption
+ Other Asian countries: Korean and Japanese citizens are exempt from visas for a maximum period of 15 days, Kyrgyzstani citizens are exempt from visas for 30 days.
+ European countries: Citizens of Belarus, Denmark, Norway, Russia, France, Finland, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, Italy, and Germany are exempt from visas for a maximum period of 15 days. Particularly, Chilean citizens are exempt from visas to enter Vietnam for 90 days.
Visa exemption for foreign citizens coming to Phu Quoc
From December 27, 2013, the Prime Minister promulgated the Decision No. 80/2013/QD-TTg, effective from March 10, 2014, promulgating a number of specific mechanisms and policies to develop Phu Quoc Island, Kien Giang Province. Accordingly, the visa exemption period for foreigners is extended from 15 days to 30 days, applicable to the case of staying in a transit area at an international border gate of Vietnam (including airway and seaway), then continuing to travel to Phu Quoc Island.
Visa exemption for foreign citizens holding APEC cards
Citizens who hold the APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC) will also be exempt from Vietnam visas for purposes of business & working for up to 60 days.
Countries participating in the APEC travel programs such as: Taiwan, Thailand, China, Singapore, Australia, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, Brunei, Chile, Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines.
5-year visa exemption certificate for foreign citizens
5-year visa exemption is also known as 5-year Vietnam visa. The holders of 5-year visa exemption certificates are allowed to stay in Vietnam for a maximum period of up to 6 months per entry. At the same time, it is possible to enter and exit Vietnam many times within 5 years provided that the period is at least 6 months shorter than the validity period of the passport.
Subjects eligible for applying for a 5-year visa exemption certificate:
+ Foreigners of Vietnamese origin who are residing overseas;
+ Foreigners who are spouses and children of Vietnamese citizens residing overseas.
Note: It is required to carry out the procedures with the competent authority to apply for a 5-year visa exemption certificate for foreign citizens. Visa exemption certificates are issued separately for each person’s passport. If children travel with their parents or share passports with their parents, their certificates will be glued in their parent’s passport.

What are the procedures for foreigners to enter Vietnam with visa exemption?
