What is an SQ visa?
SQ Visa, also known as Vietnam Visa - symbol SQ, is issued for the cases specified in Clause 3, Article 17 of Law No. 47/2014/QH13 (Law on entry, exit, transit, and residence of foreigners in Vietnam), for entry purposes: market survey, travel, visiting relatives, medical treatment.
People granted SQ visa
Accordingly, Clause 3 Article 17 stipulates the subjects who are granted SQ visa as follows: The head of the competent authority of Vietnam abroad shall issue visas to foreigners wishing to enter Vietnam to conduct market survey, tourism, visiting relatives, and medical treatment in the following cases:
- People who have a working relationship with a competent authority of Vietnam abroad and their spouses, children or people with a written request from the competent agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the host country;
- People with guarantee notes of diplomatic missions, and consular offices of countries located in host countries.
Duration of Vietnam SQ visa
The SQ-sign visa is valid for no more than 30 days. When the SQ visa expires, the applicant is considered for a new visa.
SQ visa conditions
To apply for an SQ visa, foreigner does not need to be invited/guaranteed by an agency, organization or individual in Vietnam, just need to meet the following two conditions:
- Have a passport or valid international travel document.
- Have not been banned from entering the country.
Application for a SQ visa according to current regulations
Basic document items that foreigners need to prepare for a Vietnam SQ visa include:
- Passport with at least 06 months validity and 02 blank pages
- Vietnam visa application form according to the prescribed form
- 02 photos 4*6cm, taken in the last 3 months
- Papers proving the subjects specified in Clause 3, Article 17 of Law No. 47/2014/QH13.
- Fee for applying for Vietnam SQ visa
- Other documents are required by the consular office.

*Note on the order of issuance of SQ visa for foreigners:
- The head of the visa-issuing authority of Vietnam abroad shall grant a visa that is valid for no more than 30 days to foreigners entering Vietnam under the SQ visa category.
- After the visa is granted, the head of the visa-issuing authority of Vietnam abroad must notify the immigration management agency and take responsibility for the visa issuance.
SQ visa fees
Vietnam SQ visa (with a duration of fewer than 30 days) can be considered for a single entry visa (1-month single entry visa) or multiple entry visa (1-month multiple entry visa). Accordingly, the fee will be different as follows:
- Visa is valid for 1 time: 25 USD per application
- Issuance of a visa valid for no more than 3 months with multiple entries: 50 USD per application.
